OPEC Secretary General conveys his condolences to the people of Iraq following tragic fire at Ibn Al-Khatib Hospital

Vienna, Austria, 26 April 2021--HE Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo, OPEC Secretary General, in a letter to HE Ihsan Abdul Jabbar Ismaael, Iraq’s Minister of Oil and Head of its Delegation to OPEC, extended his deep and sincere condolences to the Government and People of Iraq on the tragic loss of life following a fire in Ibn Al-Khatib Hospital in Baghdad, Iraq on Saturday, 24 April 2021.

The Secretary General wrote: “It is hard to find the appropriate words to express our sadness given that the majority of the victims of this fire were either COVID-19 patients or their relatives.”

“In this hour of mourning, OPEC stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the Government and great people of Iraq. Your magnificent nation, the birthplace of our Organization and one of our Founder Members, is regarded with tremendous esteem, respect and affection by everyone in the OPEC Family,” he added.
